Grass drying rack REVIEW

As the mother of a toddler I have become sort of a guru of all things toddler and baby related. My daughter loves her straw cups and most of them have multiple pieces. When washing all those pieces sometimes it gets hard to keep track of every little thing but if you lose just one part it can make the entire cup useless. These drying racks not only help to properly dry the items but keep them all in one place. This rack comes in three pieces (2 plastic grass sections and one square drainage piece ). All made from high quality plastic. I love these things.

Sunsella Stainless Steel Pastry Scraper & Chopper REVIEW

I'm a person who cooks everyday so I enjoy high quality cooking tools and gadgets. Like many other people I love baking and cooking even more during the holiday season.  Having my Sunsella stainless steel pastry scraper and chopper made everything so much easier. It's made with a high quality stainless steel blade. The handle is made from food grade silicone that is also BPA free. The handle fits perfectly in your hand to not only give you a proper grip but also helps avoid slippage. Overall this is an amazing addition to my kitchen.

Sunsella Mighty Pops 6 Silicone Popsicle Molds REVIEW!

Now I love a good multiple purpose product. My daughter loves popsicles as much as the next kid but during the winter she cuts way back on eating them. When she does get them I like being able to make them from scratch because of her 18 different food allergies. When we aren't using these to make yummy homemade popsicles I use them as snack holders in my purse and in my diaper bag. I love putting those Gerber Graduates melts in them. They're small so with the size of the silicone "molds" you can fit a lot of melts in them. The molds are made of high quality dish washer safe BPA free silicone. They're easy to use and easy to clean. I either just hand wash them or pop them on the top rack of my dish washer. Overall I really love these things!

Sunsella Silicone Egg & Pancake Rings REVIEW!

I love cooking. I actually cook 3 sometimes 4 meals a day for myself and my tiny human. So I'm pretty obsessed with these eggs rings. Granted my daughter nor I can eat eggs but the rest of my family can so they've come in very handy. They make the perfect round sandwich size eggs. The bonus is they can also be used to make awesome toddler size pancakes (which my daughter loves). The rings are made from high quality silicone which means they wont melt or burn in your pans. They're easy to clean as well. I sprayed a little bi of cooking spray on the rings before dropping the eggs in and everything slides out just perfectly. The long metal "handle" can get a bit hot so be careful and grab the red round "nob" at the end. These will be a breakfast gadget staple in my house from now on.

How my 1 week trip turned into a month long trip

As most of you have noticed my blog entries have been erratic to say the least. I'm ready to explain. For the last 2 months or so my mother has been eating ice by the 10 pound bag (literally). So when my mom went to her doctor I told her to make sure she mentioned the ice eating to him. She said she'd humor me and tell him. I assumed it was just anemia like I had while I was pregnant. They put me on iron pills and it was all good. Well, it was a bit more than that. My mom's doctor ordered a few tests due to the ice eating. One of which was a colonoscopy. The day of my mother's colonoscopy my daughter and I were having lunch and my mom called and told me they found cancer. Just the word cancer makes you freak out and think death.

So her doctor quickly scheduled an appointment for her to meet with a surgeon. He explained everything to us. He explained that they'd be taking a portion of her colon and reconnecting everything. THEN he tells us he's booked 3 months out. THREE MONTHS!!! The idea of having my mom wait 3 months with cancer growing in her bod didn't sit well with me. Seeing the look on my face he quickly made a joke about finding an operating room on ebay and doing the surgery ASAP. Laughing made me feel a bit better. So we went home and waited. Thankfully the wait wasn't that long. The surgeon's office called two days later and said my mom was scheduled for surgery the following week. They said they wanted to get the mass out while it wasn't big and hadn't spread. Which of course is a good thing.

Off to California we go! The plan was for her to have her surgery we'd stay in Ca for a week and then she'd come home with me. Well it didn't really work out like that. The surgery went very well but the recovery was a different story. My mom developed something called ileus*.  She went to her regular doctor who did a few x-rays and sent them over to her surgeon for her appointment the following day. By this point my mother hasn't been able to keep any food down since being released from the hospital. We arrived at her surgeon's office and he asks what we were doing there. My mom said she had an appointment. He asked her if she'd checked her voicemail. She of course said no. Turns out he'd called the day before after seeing her x-rays and said go right to the ER to be admitted. OK by this point I'm scared. They immediately take her and put her into a bed. An hour later they finally got her into a private room. They had to put a tube down her nose to suck out everything that wouldn't "come out". After the tube was in for a few days the doctor finally said everything was out and they could remove the tube. They made her stay a couple more days after that than she was released. We stayed a few more days just to make 100% sure she was ok. During our trip her surgeon called and said the pathologist found NO cancer in any of the lymph nodes which means no chemo or radiation. The surgery got ALL of the cancer. Praise the Lord.

So that's what my family has been dealing with for the last month or so. I apologize for my lack of posts but I'm home and things should be getting back to normal....or something close to it.

Oh and I'd like to add that my tiny human was a real trooper through it all. After mom's surgery I explained grandma couldn't pick her up and she totally listened. I'm so very proud of her.

*Ileus : Inability of the intestine (bowel) to contract normally and move waste out of the body.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

My little gymnast!

My wild child loves being in the gym. KC is very much a free spirit so  any organized activity is a hit or miss depending on how she's feeling at any given time. She's been going since she was around 18 months old. She loves her teachers Miss Mary and Miss Amanda. Does she listen? Not always lol I mean come on she's 2 for pete sake!

Her favorite thing to do is the rock climbing wall. Not something you think you'd see in gymnastics gym , right? Well it's actually really awesome. It helps the kiddos with their strength and motor skills. KC mastered that the second time she tried it. The climbing wall used to be part of the toddler obstacle course but at her last class it wasn't there anymore. KC looked pretty upset by it. So instead of the rock wall she runs back and forth across the balance beam. That might be      partially my fault. I did get her a balance beam last Christmas.

I love seeing her learn and have so much fun. Who knew mommy and me gymnastics could be so fun?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

ICObuty Hair Bow REVIEW!

My daughter is all about the hair bows. Ok maybe I should say her grandma is all about the hair bows. So of course we have to have bows for every outfit and holiday. These holiday bows by ICObuty are totally adorable. Not only are the colors bright but the ribbons used to make the bows is sturdy and can stand up to the toddler tantrums that we all know and "love".  The clips themselves are covered with ribbon to help avoid scratching your little one's head. Overall these are awesome bows to add to my daughter's collection.

This is not ok!

Much like everyone else in the world I sat up last night waiting for election results. I had so much faith and hope in America. I was wrong. Oh so very wrong. Last night America allowed hate to win. How do we explain this to our children? How do we explain it to ourselves? How can people justify hate , racism , mocking and being OK with sexual assault? As a woman of color who gave birth to a tiny woman of color I am afraid. I don't even know what to say or feel right now.  I guess I can take comfort in the fact that Hillary won the popular vote. More people voted against hate than for it. We just weren't in the right states. My daughter has gymnastics today and I am literally afraid to leave my house as a person of color.

I'm a friend and ally to and for the LGBT community , I'm a friend to Muslims, I'm a friend to Mexicans , I'm a friend to women and our rights as women. These things are the reasons I am so shell shocked right now.

My timeline is making me giggle this morning. The people who dished out the most hate are now singing the song of ok now lets be nice. Nope sorry I can't and wont be nice to you. I remember you saying that my rights as a woman and a human being meant nothing. I remember you insulting babies and calling them ugly just because their grandparents happen to be the Clintons. I remember when you said "f*gs" shouldn't be allowed to marry. I remember when you said it's ok for the police to stop people of color "just in case... well you know" (no asshat I don't know). I remember when you made fun of sexual assault victims because being grabbed by the pussy is a BAD THING. I remember when you made excuses for the mocking of people with disabilities as "well he wasn't talking about THAT reporter". I remember you saying that NO Muslim should "ever" be allowed into our country even if they were born here because they aren't "real Americans". So no I can't be nice to you. Now that I know these are the true feelings in your heart I can't even have you or your views in my life. When someone shows you who they REALLY are ....believe them. I'm believing!.

Au Fudge

I've wanted to go to Au Fudge since before it even opened. For those who don't know this is the new hip and trendy restaurant that is not only filled with great food but is totally kid friendly. Maybe kid friendly really isn't even the phrase I should use more like kid-centric. From the start our visit was amazing.  We went on a Wednesday so it wasn't crowded at all. I loved that the staff paid a lot of attention to my 2 year old (she liked it too lol). I ordered a burger and a trio of fries (sweet potato , regular and truffle). My daughter had the sweet potato fries and the regular ones due to her allergies but hey she loved them. After lunch I checked her into the creative space for $15. Which to me is quite the bargain. Before I could even sign her in she was off and playing. They have so many awesome toys. Many of which my daughter has in her room so they were toys she knew and loved. Which was a perk. Dixie the Au Pair was super nice and very attentive. After I made sure she  was settled in my friend and I went and sat in the outdoor space and had desert. I had the churro sliders , which I have declared one of the best thing I've ever eaten. My friend had the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Which was also beyond amazing.  Our waiter Danny was up beat , fun and a pleasure to deal with. Overall I am in love with this place and hope it stays around for a long time. We will for sure be back!
